If you are have a job opening, then it is important that you have the right job description. There are a few things you will want to think about to get the right candidate for the job.

Think About the Keywords

Even if SEO is not your forte, this is something you still need to think about with the job description. This is because it is the way that people will search for and find your job listing. Make sure the description is keyword rich so that it will rank higher in search results.

Be as Descriptive as Possible

The next thing you will want to keep in mind with this is that the better you describe the job you are offering, the better the results will be. This does not mean it has to be a full page. You do want to touch on these key aspects:

 

  • Responsibilities- you want the candidate to know what they will be handling
  • Requirements- This can save a lot of time for people looking at the posting and your time as well. They can see what you are looking for and can just move on if need be.
  • Details of the Position– Here is where you want to list aspects such as salary, hours and other relevant information the applicant should be aware of before submitting an application or resume.

Remember to make tone of the job description match the tone of your work environment. So if you own a laid back pet store, your tone may be fun and conversational. However if you have a law firm, then the tone needs to be authoritative and intellectual.

Break up the Text

Reading long blocks of texts is simply not visually appealing and can discourage applicants from applying. Instead, the best thing you can do is to break up the content into small paragraphs and use subheaders. Bullet points and lists are also very helpful. This allows people to read the information easier and quicker.

Take Advantage of Technology

The best thing you can do with your job application is take advantage of hiring / recruiting technology to get the results you are looking for. An example of this is with large companies that are always looking for employers may create an applicant tracking app designed to allow people to apply for a job and then get to know their co-workers a little better. Even if the technology you are using is simply social media. Make sure you are taking advantage of what you have.This will help you to get your message out and get the applicants you are looking for.
